Biography
It's not easy to hide when you're just one man and a keyboard. Yet Mathieu Artu doesn't seem to be that "lonely"… You'll have to blame his past as a multi-instrumentalist : guitar, piano, drums, vocals, all the stuff a modern composer with no limitations could use.
His taste for tear-jerking melodies and cinematic arrangements was first expressed through the now defunct post-hardcore band Atheist Prayer. Proof that you have to be a part of an underground rock band to earn some points.
It's been just 2 years since the RQTN journey began, and yet plenty of goals were already achieved. His debut EP, "We Were ... We Are" (Swarm Of Nails), got the attention of the post-rock community with its primal melancholy . An unexpected reaction, giving Mathieu Artu the impulse to release a second EP ("S/T") that very same year.
The beginning of 2009 sees the competition of "Monolithes En Mouvement", a first long-play album. Writing and production gets tighter and more focused, making the older works sound like awkward drafts. But above all the orchestration changes drastically : narration becomes piano driven, carrying a cold and wooly sadness. A major kick, successfuly acclaimed by the alternative web press (The Silent Ballet, Metalorgie...), allowing RQTN to reach a larger audience with it's free download.
Growing tired of so much musical sadness, Mathieu Artu then headed towards something lighter. The line had already been drawn : the new RQTN would be full of fluorescent synthetizers and massive drumkits. "Decades And Decisions" (April 2010) surprises the audience, with ten short - sometimes catchy - tracks, lifting the RQTN project into an unexpected place : a world of "songs", which you find yourself listening over and over, humming them effortlessly.
But what is bred in the bone will come out in the blood.
Some last words of violence with the "Ruine" project, and it's one-shot EP of "misanthropic dance punk". Then the torments reappear, heavier than before, life following it's course of deceptions, sinking deeper and deeper. And here we are, with a whole new album, going even further than before. Even more subtle, even more concise, even more troubled. 20 tracks, 20 scenes, 1 movie script. RQTN, meaning : "Never stop".

Biographie
Difficile de se cacher quand on est tout seul derrière son clavier. Et pourtant, "seul", Mathieu Artu ne le parait jamais.
La faute a son passé de multi-instrumentiste : guitare, piano, batterie, chant, bref tout l'attirail du compositeur moderne sans limites. Son gout pour les mélodies tire-larmes et les arrangements cinématographiques, Mathieu l'exprimait déjà timidement à travers le Post-Hardcore d'Atheist Prayer. Preuve supplémentaire qu'il faut toujours avoir fait partie d'un groupe de rock underground pour aller plus haut.
Tout juste 2 ans que l'aventure RQTN a commencé, et déjà beaucoup d'étapes franchies, de tournants et de remises en question. Un premier EP, "We Were…We Are" (Swarm Of Nails), qui séduit d'emblée les amateurs de post-rock par sa mélancolie primaire. Une impulsion inespérée qui permet à son créateur d'enchainer un 2ème EP éponyme la même année.
Et puis le début de l'année 2009 voit la sortie de "Monolithes En Mouvement", première bifurcation qui relègue les précédents efforts à l'état de brouillons. L'écriture et la production s'affine, mais surtout, l'orchestration change radicalement de visage : la narration se fait désormais par le piano, vecteur d'une tristesse cotonneuse et hivernale. Un coup d'éclat qui récolte tous les suffrages de la presse web indépendante (The Silent Ballet, Metalorgie…), et séduit un plus large public par son téléchargement gratuit.
Fatigué par tant de tourmente musicale, Mathieu Artu se dirige vers des horizons moins plombés. Le sillon est dores et déjà creusé : le prochain RQTN sera brodé de synthés fluos et de beats massifs. "Decades & Decisions" (Avril 2010) prend en traitre avec ses 10 morceaux courts, parfois même tubesques, et amène le projet RQTN dans un cadre encore plus lointain : celui des "chansons", que l'on se prend à écouter à boucle, et à chantonner bêtement sans réfléchir.
Mais chassez le naturel et il revient au galop.
Un dernier sursaut de violence avec le projet "Ruine" et son EP éponyme, façon electro misanthrope à tendance hardcore du futur perdu. Mais la tourmente reprend, plus forte qu'avant, la vie amenant son lots de déceptions, alimentant un désespoir toujours plus dur à enrayer. Et nous voilà déjà en face d'un nouvel opus, qui met à l'amende tous les précédents. Toujours plus raffiné, toujours plus concis, toujours plus juste. 20 titres, 20 scènes, un film. Une classe et une maitrise des sentiments indéniable. RQTN, signifiant "ne jamais s'arrêter".
